Nettiquite

Today’s post is going to be about netiquette. This is a shortened version of net etiquette. It is essentially a list of rules that is good manners on the internet.

These are some rules that I think are important to follow when you are online and that I will follow on my blog:

  1. Capital letters means shouting. If I type something like this “I LOVE SOCCER” it would be yelling. Try to avoid this as you might not know what it means, and type in caps lock accidentally and make something seem more negative then it really is.
  2. No swearing. Once you put something online anyone can access it from the police to your parents, swearing online is not good. Putting random combinations of symbols such as ‘$#@*^!’ means the same thing.
  3. Be careful what you are saying when you are ‘joking’. By typing, you can’t know how something is said. If you say something that is meant to be taken as a joke, I would have no idea if you were joking or not. Some things can be taken a completely different way and can hurt people.
  4. Be original. There is copyright on the internet, from things like music to copying someone’s blog post word from word, you can and most of the time will be copyrighted and sued, which means that they will take money off you for copying or using their property without their consent.
  5. Respect the site owner’s rules. Just like you should be respecting mine, if the owner asks for the site to be a pg kid friendly website, you have to respect that by not swearing or making fun of people by commenting that.

Follow these netiquette rules and have fun while staying safe online.
